Security

The tournament organizer decide how much security is needed for an event with multiple options for controlling both scoring and viewing access to the leader board.  As the Internet makes the mobile site wide open to pretty much anyone, you need to make the choice between ease of use for your players and undesired intrusion by an outsider.  The more security you implement, the harder it can become for your scorers to access the system.  In addition, the more security you implement, the more work you'll have as a tournament organizer. We typically recommend using at minimum the "Standard" scoring access option along with requiring PIN access for scoring. Click here to see a comparison table of the various security levels.

Prior to reading this section, we recommend you review the add or edit a tournament <Tournament Information> which details each of the security options.

In this section, we'll review each of the security options and note the related responsibilities of the tournament organizer.  Please note that all of these settings are found on the <Tournament Information> page.

Require Entry of Tournament PIN for Scoring Requests - When this option is selected, the tournament organizer will have to communicate the tournament/round PIN to each scorer.  It can be made available at the start of the tournament via a simple handout (along with the URL for the mobile site).  Or, if you know the email addresses of the scorers, they can be entered into the registered teams/players grid and then sent out via the Tournament Dashboard.

Make your event private by requiring entry of Tournament PIN for leaderboard viewing - Normally, a leader board is open to viewing by anyone on the Internet.  If you want to limit viewing access, then select this option.  The tournament organizer will have to communicate the PIN to all interested viewers.  It can be made available via a simple handout.  Or, if you know the email addresses of the viewers, they can be entered and sent out via the Tournament Dashboard.

Team/Player Scoring Access Level - There are 4 levels of security that the tournament organizer can select from.  The responsibility of the tournament organizer for each one follows.  (For more insight into security take a look at the Security Comparison Table found here):

Standard Security  - The tournament organizer has no responsibilities associated with this option.

High - If the tournament organizer has configured email addresses on the registered scoring teams/players grid they should be sent out prior to the tournament using the tournament dashboard.  In addition the tournament organizer must respond to real-time scoring requests from player's at the start of each tournament by using the tournament dashboard.

Ultra High - The tournament organizer must configure email addresses on the registered scoring teams/players grid and they should be sent out prior to the tournament using the tournament dashboard.

Locked - Only you (the tournament manager) can enter scores. If you configure optional email addresses on the registered scoring teams/players grid they should be sent out prior to the tournament using the tournament dashboard.  Note that these addressees will only be sent general tournament viewing information and not scoring credentials.
